I want to wish our members and other Rotary Beat readers a Happy New Year.  I hope everyone is on track with their New Year resolutions and has recovered from some of the worst winter weather we have seen in years. I certainly hope the rest of the winter is more like the last few years.

I also want to take this opportunity to welcome our newest Rotarian Dave Cash to our Club. I look forward to Dave involvement in our activities over the coming years. And I want to congratulate Alyson Long for her Rotarian of the Year award- her contributions to our Club have been exemplary.

As we enter 2014 I find that my President’s term is now one half over. It is surprising how quickly it has gone however as I look back our club has accomplished a lot in the last 6 months. As I look ahead to the next 6 months our major fundraiser – the Gala – is now clearly on the horizon.  Please mark April 12 on your calendar.  Each Rotarian should be thinking about whom they will sell tickets to, what donations can be organized and what they can do to help Joanne Fowler and her organizing committee. It is always a good time and is certainly one of Scugog’s top social events of the year. And over the next 6 months we will be planning for our other summer and fall fundraisers and planning the implementation of various projects. And of course President Elect Bob Brownson and his new executive will be busy planning for next year. I am impressed with the way our Club keeps things moving year over year.

I wish everybody well in the coming year.
