Carolyn Porter and Nancy Hamer Strahl came to Rotary Club of Port Perry to share their successes with the First Nation Literacy Partnership Program (FNLPP). They both work for Durham District School Board in the Aboriginal Education Department. This program is about people connecting with one another through books written by First Nation, Metis, and Inuit authors in order to engage and explore via different cultural traditions and perspectives.

Rotary Club of Port Perry has supported this program for about 5 years now, helping supply First Nations book kits to local communities, as well as communities in the far North.

Carolyn and Nancy also taught us a traditional First Nation song, while using traditional drums. What a fantastic night! It was so nice to hear more about the book kits, what we have been doing to help support this amazing initiative, and learn more about indigenous cultures.
