Annual Golf Tournament raises over $7,000

On October 1, 2008 we had the pleasure of hosting our Annual Port Perry Rotary Charity Invitational Golf Tournament at Oakridge Golf club. Seventy five generous players attended and enjoyed the great fall weather and the scramble format golf.

As a result of the generosity of the Players, the Hole Sponsors and the Donors of the Silent Auction items, we were able to realize over $7,000.00, in excess of our costs. These welcomed funds are used primarily to fund the Seniors Christmas Dinner which took place on November 19th at The Scugog Community Center. Over 200 local seniors and disabled persons joined us in this annual holiday celebration, despite a snowy and very chilly evening.

Our club must give a large and sincere THANK YOU to all the Players, the Hole Sponsors and the many Donors of the items for the silent auction. In addition I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Port Perry members who volunteered their time to help staff this important fund raising event.

To the other members of the Golf Committee, Terry Coyne, Richard Gauder, Roy Goodwin, Malcolm Lennox and Jim Lawrence thank you for your guidance and assistance in helping put on a successful tournament.

Coldwell-Banker donates $5,000 to the Rotary Club of Port Perry

Representatives from Coldwell-Banker, Port Perry, were on hand to deliver a cheque for $5,000 to the Rotary Club of Port Perry. $25 from every home sale made by a Coldwell-Banker representative in Port Perry is being donated to the Rotary Club of Port Perry. The realtors at Coldwell-Banker have pledged $25,000 over the next five years to the Rotary Club of Port Perry to support projects in the community.

Along with it's pledge of $25,000 to our Rotary Club, local Coldwell Banker RMR Real Estate Ltd. brokers have added the Rotary Wheel to their signs. A BIG thank you to the Coldwell Team for the pledge and local awareness of our club.

    Thanks for your support!

    District Governor Inducts new member

District Governor Mike Phelan was on hand at the September 3 meeting of the Port Perry Rotary Club to induct Michael Fowler as the newest member of the Club.  This is Mike's second time around as a Rotarian and we're proud to have him back in the fold.

    Aquarama 2008 raises $11,000 for Children's Charities

Seventy-five riders were on hand to cut the waves at Aquarama on Sunday, August 17, raising over $11,000 to benefit Children’s Charities throughout Scugog. President Karl Herder took to the lake first for the traditional President’s Ride.  Although our president may not have broken any speed records, he did break the highest pledge record with $1255 raised.

Joel Penny, of the Marine Dream Team was the fastest rider with a time of 69 seconds. Even though Mike Fleming of the April Fuels Fools team had the wettest and most entertaining of all the rides, his team managed a first place finish for fastest team.

A huge thank you is extended to all of the businesses in town who contributed enthusiastic
teams on their behalf. Special thanks goes to John Mackey of Port Perry Marina who provides the Sea-Doos every year for Aquarama and spends the entire day in the water giving riders “correct”, safe driving instructions.

See you on the water next year!
